Obviously as an optical component manufacturer we polish mirror surfaces to sub micrometre precision, and sub nanometre surface roughness. Sometimes though, components are needed where that level of accuracy, and the cost associated with it aren’t needed. Parts for use in beam dumps, power meters, as shutter mirrors, or beam apertures for example. Here just a good quality reflective surface finish is needed, better than precision engineering can offer, but not the full specification laser grade polishing and coating.
We are happy to work with customers to agree a cost effective specification that meets the technical need, but doesn’t break the bank. This might just be flat surface lapping for mounting faces, or electroless nickel plating to improve their durabilty, for example brass Fresnel lens moulds have a much longer lifetime when nickel plated.
